The Boat

Sailing boat named Remedy on water with a large bridge in background under clear blue sky.

Remedy is a 1988 Taswell 43, designed by Bill Dixon and built at Taiwan’s Ta Shing boatyard, a builder renowned for exceptional craftsmanship and robust construction.

The Taswell 43 is a highly regarded 43-foot center-cockpit cruising boat, known for its seaworthiness and solid offshore performance. Designed for extended cruising and liveaboard comfort, the layout features two private staterooms—each with an ensuite head—providing comfort and privacy for couples or small crews.

Key design elements include a cutter rig, fin keel, and skeg-hung rudder, contributing to a well-balanced sail plan and dependable handling at sea. The hull is solid hand-laid fiberglass, complemented by generous tankage and thoughtfully arranged systems suitable for long-range passagemaking.

Below decks, the interior is beautifully finished in Burmese teak, with abundant storage, a practical offshore galley, and a warm, classic aesthetic. Produced primarily in the late 1980s and 1990s, the Taswell 43 has earned a strong reputation as a capable, seakindly, and durable cruising yacht—well-suited for serious offshore sailing and comfortable long-term living aboard.

We purchased Remedy in Grenada in 2022. She came equipped with an Onan 8k genset and a Spectra 200T watermaker, and was repowered in 2006 by previous owners with a Yanmar 4JH4-TE.

After purchasing her, we spent 18 months at a dock in Brunswick, Georgia, transitioning to liveaboard boat life and fitting her for our cruising and liveaboard needs. We cast off the lines in January 2024 and have continued to upfit her while working jobs and living on the move.
